From the Chairman – April 23, 2020
As some members will be aware, the club has terminated the contract with Phillip Island Golf Services, Marcus Liberman.
The COVID-19 caused the closure of the club facilities in March. The board enacted a termination clause due to uncertainties and protection of the club. Marcus was offered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to carry out the last term of the contract, which expires on 30/6/2021. Financial alterations to the current contract were put forward and unfortunately, we were unable to reach a mutual agreement.
Moving forward, the board will decide on how we operate into the future with the Pro Shop. We will look at all our options.
The board would like to thank Marcus for the past 18 years of service and we wish Marcus, Simonne and Steph all the best for the future.
We also wish Rob Davidson a speedy recovery after surgery. Rob is a devoted hard worker for the club, and we hope to see him and Di back soon, when the club gets back to normal.
We have our casual and permanent staff on the Job Keeper allowance and have received some Government Financial Assistance. To date, this has kept Lesley busy as there was quite a lot to digest. Also, thanks to Jeannette Diss for organising a promo for Golf Australia and highlighting PIGC.inc
Out on the course, works on the 17th and 14th bunkers have begun, the ground staff are to be congratulated on their input along with the greens committee. Members are advised not to play on the course as this comes with a fine for yourself and the club – please respect the law.
Every day we are getting closer to playing, and I must say the course is pristine.
Extract from Golf Australia:
Golf Australia, why we cannot play golf socially in Victoria.
The ability to play currently does not apply to those in Victoria and the Northern Territory where golf remains prohibited by those State and Territory governments. As ever, Golf Australia will continue constructive dialogue and advocacy for golfers with these governments.
It is important to note that Golf Australia may again alter our position depending on the changing requirements of governments (Federal, State and Territory) as the COVID-19 crisis unfolds.
The Board will organise a big return when we are clear on a date, our beloved MasterChef Bruce Sherwood has been planning a food extravaganza and music.
Please note we have removed the defibrillators from Kimbies and the clubhouse as thieves in the district are targeting them now.
